I am looking for a dress for a siblings wedding. I need a large size. I found these. I dont know which I like more, but I would just take off from the bottom, as I am a bit shorter than these models, to do something about the sleeves.

Do you ladies think these dresses are nice for a sibling's wedding?

Very nice. I love the color. I would wear either of these with a shell.

I like the first one best. You're probably going to need more fabric than just a bit off the bottom. But you could probably buy your own purple fabric and cover the sleeves with the sheer scarf that comes with it to make sure it matches perfectly.

It's a pretty color and bodice.

Pretty dresses.

But I think one thing that makes them attractive is the clean, circular shape of the neckline. I think popping a shell underneath would destroy the neat geometry of the neckline. Perhaps it would be best to add a sleeve? (Not sure what/how).

I love the color.

Im the OP. I would not add a shell under it. The neck line is fine for me. I would only add sleeves. I am very short, so I am sure there would be a lot of material at the bottom to do something with the sleeves.

The color is gorgeous. They're pretty dresses. Hopefully you'll have enough material for the sleeves.

Would just say that the gathers/pleats on the top of the dress will make you look very busty. For some people, this is a nice enhancement, for others, it's more than they can afford. Either way, they are beautiful dresses and I LOVE the color.

Also, and I am a seamstress, I'm not sure you'd be able to fully make a sleeve from the bottom of the dress, no matter how short you are. You might have to buy fabric and use the extras from the bottom of the dress as a trim to tie it all together. Buy it with the option of returning it, and take it to a seamstress for an opinion first.

You should buy the one with the scarf. You can use it to make the sleeves. And I think it's the nicer dress.

but the second one has a hole below the neckline that actually shows cleavage. not sure how you could do that one without a shell under.

I happen to like the first one better anyway ;-)

I was talking about for the first one Smile
For the second one, I would put a piece of something there, no shell, thats just another added layer that I would not want.

While the two from Nordstrom's are great, especially the color, I don't think they would look well with sleeves added. The one from David's Bridal will probably work much better to have sleeves added.

Why do you think they would not look good with sleeves added?

You used to be able to order extra fabric from david's bridal. At the very least they may have a shrug or a shawl in the matching fabric that you could buy to build the sleeves. Personally I prefer to use the same fabric when building up a dress.

I don't think they would look good with a sleeve either because it will destroy the vertical look. If you are short and large those dress are only going to make you look larger. You need something with straighter lines. I like the color.

The first one is better but I also like this one:

Simple, yet elegant.

Last year, I bought a dress from the below company (via eBay). I was VERY happy with it. Not the most amazing quality, but I was happy enough, and I was able to send them my measurements for a perfect fit. Also, I asked them to leave the bottom material (no shortening).

There was SO much material left at the bottom that the seamstress said she could put on sleeves, cover the chest, and make a cute shawl, too! lol.

Here is a link to a dress that is similar to the one you are looking for from the eBay store I just mentioned:

Other dresses you might also consider:

- This one comes in purple (slightly darker than the Nordstroms one) and looks VERY easy to make tznius. I think you could do a beautiful scarf or collar and completely forego going to a seamstress or buying a shell:
