Has there been a change? Why would OU give the Hechsher (Dole raisins have OU) if raisins are known to be terribly infested and many Rabbonim and Kashrus organizations publicized that raisins shouldnt be eaten ever?

Whats the latest update on raisins?

Yes, I'm so confused about this. Although I'm in Israel so it might be a little different. I know (according to who I follow) that if you buy plain raisins with a 'top' hechsher (such as eida chareidis) - you still have to clean them with hot water and check them etc. But why are their raisin cereals with an eida chareidis hechsher, for example? I'm sure those raisins haven't been checked.

Why don't you ask the OU?

Also, who are these "many Rabbonim and Kashrus organizations"? Each kashrut organizatin is independent of the others. Just because kashrut organization "X" decided raisins are not kosher, doesn't mean that kashrut organization "Y" shares this opinion.

Rabbi Nussbaum of OU says OU says raisins are fine.

Then I asked whether Rabbonim might be Machmir on issues like these for themselves, while allowing it for the general populace. I asked whether Rabbi Belsky would eat raisins himself... Confused

Rabbi Nussbaum answered that he doesnt know what Rav Belsky does, but he eats raisins.

Thats good enough for me! Thanks for the OU number! Very Happy

My understanding is that raisins are ok but one should take care to buy them in a place that has a high turnover of current stock, I.e. not a dollar store. (Good advice for pasta too.) I'm not a rabbi or mashgiach nor do I play one on TV but I heard this sometime within the past year.

CRC said that anything with their hashgacha that has raisins aren't really raisins. It's something very similar in look and taste, but a bit smaller than regular raisins. There is a name for it, but it slipped my mind now. They claim that these aren't infested...

If they hire more people it will raise the hashgacha costs. LOL
