SIL's close friends are throwing her a bridal shower. SIL expressed discomfort at the idea of opening gifts at the party, so in lieu of everyone giving a gift, the host is inviting the guests to contribute towards a large gift certificate for SIL.

I have no problem with the group gift certificate plan. My question is what is an appropriate amount to contribute towards the group gift? It is a group gift so SIL won't know how much each individual contributed, but I don't want to risk giving too little or too much and making it weird for the host.

SIL and friends are in KGH. I'm not from KGH, so I don't know how to describe the community. Anyone know what is an appropriate/customary shower gift amount in that community? MIL would have no idea and I don't want to ask the friends directly. Appreciate the input.

Amother due to the identifying details.
