my twins are 7. we read magazines together (Ranger Rick, Highlights), lots of chapter books (Big Nate, Captain Underpants, Tales of a 6th grade muppet, diary of a wimpy kid--- funny stuff), color/stickers/paint/stamp...... play outside (sidewalk chalk, bubbles, catch, kickball, basketball, tag, hide and seek, races, red light green light 123, simon says, have them ride bikes or scooters in driveway)...... games (sorry, uno, cranium, etc) and in terms of going out...... playgrounds, science museum, chuck e cheese, bowling, out for lunch, out for ice cream. I always take my husband with me when we go out though--- my kids have intense severe behaviors. Luckily my husband doesn't work all summer long. I'm SUPPOSED to be working (so at least we have ONE income over the summers!) but typically I'm lucky if I get in 10-12 hours of real work a week during the weeks that kids are home.
It's been a long time since camp ended. Next summer we're not doing camp at all, so what I listed above is basically camp mommy for next summer.

I drive carpool so although there are other kids in the car I still feel like Im Spending time with them.
Sitting on the couch together not necessarily talking but just being together.
Board games (we're obsessed with settlers of catan right now)
Walk outside right after candle lighting on Friday night

Usually I sit on their bed right before bed time and just talk about their day and whatever else they want to talk about. When I really don't have time - I spend time with them pretty much shadowing me while I do chores and having them talk to me. It could be sitting next to me while I mend clothes, or talking to me while I clean or cook in the kitchen. The key for my kids is that they are the only one there and that I am giving them most of my attention (notice I didn't say undivided - because I have a real hard time with that right now).
When I have more patience:
-board games or card games
-let them help me cook/bake and talk at the same time
-For younger kids - color together. For older kids - do an arts and crafts project together.
-Come with me when I have to make a really quick drive somewhere - so we can talk without siblings there.
