So apparently the AAP or the ADA or whatever now recommends using fluoride toothpaste from day 1, though in minute amounts. I was previously under the impression that the risk/benefit assessment on fluoride was controversial. We live in NY where all the municipal water is fluoridated. However, I have always lived here and drunk plenty of tap water and yet I got lots of cavities, though that was even with fluoride toothpaste as well.
Anyway, now I'm unsure again. Also, my fluoride-free children's toothpaste is running low and my local store only had the fluoride type. But my kids do have a propensity to just suck out all the toothpaste and eat it anyway (I don't even find it so tasty; I've been using Tom's of Maine, not the yummy bubblegum junk of my youth. Kids. )
