Posting here because anon is disabled in NY forum and I just asked around....
How much do you pay a high school girl to babysit in the evenings in Flatbush?
Feel free to answer as a mom of a high schooler, how much does your daughter usually get and hour?

Wouldn't it depend on how many kids she's watching?

Op here
Thanks for all the responses.
no, at night it usually doesn't matter how many kids as some if not all are expected to be asleep.

My daughters get $10 an hour. One lady has difficult children- she pays between $12-15.
This is in Kensington.

I usually pay $10 per hr. BUT I round up so if I'm only gone 3 hours and 42 mins, I pay her for 4 hours (because it's just nicer.)

Those that do it for $5-$6 an hour (brooklyn) usually view the job as chesed. I wouldn't be surprised if the poster said her husband is in kollel, or that she is not as well to do as the parents of the high school girls she hires.
When I was in high school it was between $5 and $10, I always took what was offered, and only went back if the situation worked for me. Less money- I'd only go back if not a hassle, and kids either sleeping or really easy, and they had good books, came back on time, etc.

I take the situation into account when paying. I definitely go to the higher end and round up if the girl agreed to come during finals/play/midterms/whatever season, on short notice, I returned late by mistake, the job involved supper/bedtime/entertainment more than sleeping, or there was some other extenuating circumstance.
Parents of teens, teach your kids how to set a fee for their services (asking friends who do similar jobs is a fine method) and how to state their fees. I really respect an assertive kid. And the ones who don't even know how to answer the question "how much do I owe you" get me a little nervous. And there was that time when I was young and inexperienced and unassertive, and babysat for some pretty bratty kids pretty late at night, and got paid about $2 an hour (seriously. If they'd needed chessed I probably would have done it anyway, but I went in under the impression that this was a regular job. And they didn't appear to be needy people in general.)

We rarely use babysitters so it's worth it for me to pay generously so the girls are willing to come back when I need them. Also, like other posters said I try to round up. At night if all the kids are in bed before they come I pay $10. If they need to put kids to bed but kids will be sleeping most of the time I pay $12. During the day when they are all up (like over their winter break) I pay $15. This is what I currently pay for 4 kids ranging from infant to 6 years old.
