I was pricing things at a local store and saw a sign - gold and silver bought. So, I packed up stuff I wasn't wearing anymore, but the shopkeeper offred me almost nothing for it.

I guess I'll hang onto most of it, but I have freshwater pearl bracelets and silver hoop earrings bought years ago for Bas Mitzvah gifts when my daughter was that age - I should give that stuff away, it's already packed "to go"....

Anyone? Or does a teacher want costume jeweley for their class?

I was the one who posted this under another thread. Here it is again:

Dear Friends,

Many of you are aware that we have recently embarked on a new Chesed project.
There are countless wonderful Tzedakahs, Hachnassas Kallahs and orginizations that assist those making a wedding and needy people. Gowns, caterer, flowers, music, rent, living expenses, household items and so much more is generously provided for. However there is one necessity for a chassan and kallah that is overlooked, that no one helps with, and that is a new piece of jewelry. We would like to fill that void.

Our idea is that many people often have jewelry that they do not wear. Wether its out of style, their taste has changed or for whatever reason it is sitting in the back of the jewelry drawer collecting dust. How nice would it be to do something meaningful with this jewelry that surely at one time had meaning to you, to give it to a new kallah who would find new hope and joy with it. We are collecting that jewelry and allowing chassanim to come and select something special for their kallah.

Last night our first Chassan came. We have a small collection of jewelry to start with, but from the look on this Chassans face you would think he was on 47th street. It was immensly gratifying to watch him examine each piece, selecting one that he felt would best suit his kallah. The Chassan was overwhelmed with emotion thanking us for this tremendous Chesed.

There are allready more calls coming in from Chassanim, the need is obviously there.
Please consider donating some unused jewelry, and please share this with others who may have jewelry to donate. We also welcome cash donations which would allow us to purchase jewelry.(Tax receipts are available for cash donations and jewelry of great value)
If you know of any people who might benefit from our jewelry "store" please direct them to us.

(An additional interesting note: Once we began working on this project we were zoche to see the concept of Mitzvah Gorreres Mitzvah come alive. We were approached about a family who was in a tough financial situation. The father hasnt worked in a long time. When asked what he had done we were told he had a few jewelry stores but had to close them when things got bad. Hes now stuck with quite a bit of inventory!! Wow! Through donations we were able to purchase some jewelry from him at cost thereby helping him and his family as well as give our project a jump start!!
We asked a jewelry store in town to help us purchase jewelry boxes wholesale and they immediately offered to clean and shine all the jewelry we collect for free so they could participate in the mitzvah!!
We are quickly witnessing how this project is affecting everyone it touches: the people donating the jewelry feel like "gems", this family, the jewelry store, the chassan and kallah etc )

For more information or to make a donation please be in touch with us
Thanks so much, Tizku Limitzvos and May we all be Zoche to share in many Simchas together and with all of Klal Yisrael

the reason I'm not wearing this stuff is b/c some of it is from the 70's and other stuff similarly outdated, others don't fit a frum neckline, and some of the stuff is discolored. I guess it doesn't hurt to take it to one of these places and ask.

BasHInda - what part of the below sounds unattractive?

I have freshwater pearl bracelets and silver hoop earrings bought years ago for Bas Mitzvah gifts when my daughter was that age - I should give that stuff away, it's already packed "to go".
