I am not usually home for the phone calls....
but the past two days I have gotten so many calls... I feel so horrible telling them no
One day it was the police department, "we recently lost two good men and are raising money for their widows."
Today it was the special olympics..
I have gotten to the point where I just say I am sorry I am a single mother of three, I barely have the money to pay the rent..
the special olympics person said, "I am not asking for money, we are selling magazines."
ISN'T THAT THE SAME THING!??!

Pretty much. My friend has a standard response: "Please place me on your 'do not call' list. I neither pledge nor conduct any monetary business over the phone."

Same here - "I do not resond to telephone solicitations. Please place me on your do not call list" and then hang up before they can reply.

Ditto. I tell them to put me on their do not call list, or I check the caller ID and don't pick up the phone.
