I know you said not bread, but maybe pita doesn't count... I serve it like falafel - in a pita with israeli salad.

thanks everyone for their ideas! I will keep in mind for future! I ended up doing baked potatoes (figured kids wud appreciate it more than mashed potatoes) and baked zuchini sticks! would of loved to to tomato salad but shmitta so it varies what we have from week to week! I also made extra for husbands supper tom at school I will to it on a rol with whatever veggies I have or don't have

My mother always served spaghetti with tomato sauce (we didn't like cheese in it) with tuna patties -- it is an automatic association for me.
