The three color chumus (with cilantro and I think habanero and plain layers) is awesome.

I also really love the veggie burgers. They have two kinds that are kosher, a 'pizza flavor' which is really like the morning star farms kind but a little cheaper, and these quinoa bean and corn ones that are AWESOME!!! They are spicy and flavorful and just so so good!

The chocolate/white chocolate/peanut butter chips are awesome for dairy baking.

The marinara sauce is good especially for the price!

And of course, there's all the chocolate and other snacks Tongue Out

It's the only place we buy cheddar cheese (by Tillamook). We are not cholov yisroel. I liked their taco shells the best however can't find those anymore. Marinara is pretty good and inexpensive. Their coffee is good too.

okay ...where is trader joe's near lakewood NJ?

Sounds like great food can be found there!

Is there a membership fee? If so, is it really worth it?

No membership fee.

Unfortunately, some regions are really sparsely populated with Trader Joe's and New Jersey is one of them. (Trader Joe's started in California, and it feels like they've got 'em on every other block there. It is awesome.)

Closest ones to Lakewood are in Princeton and Shrewsbury.
There's also one in Brooklyn (Park Slope area, in a cool building that used to be a bank. It has high ceilings and beautiful murals), which might be more convenient if you visit New York more regularly.

When I lived in Lakewood, I totally went through a Trader Joe's withdrawal. Smile

Now I'm in Chicago and every time I go to the nearest store (in Evanston), I tell them how grateful I am to have a branch nearby.

(The cashiers at Trader Joe's are always cool people. Lots of hippies and hipsters. I once schmoozed with one about how happy I was to have Trader Joe's and we got into a whole conversation about her years growing up in North Dakota, where the nuclear silos are every other block and people pretend they don't know what they are. Fun times.)

their babka is delicious and moist and so rich and chocolatey.
I also like their european style chocolate yogurt (it is kind of sour/tangy though so prob. not for everyone)
and their horseradish hummus

I wish! Like bigsis, I grew up (okay, I remember it opening, but whatever) with Trader Joe's readily available and I miss it in Lakewood. There's one in Paramus too but Shrewsbury is closest. I've never been there so I don't know about the availability of kosher food. No membership!

any of their soy ice cream - mango, vanilla, cherry chocolate chip
frozen cubes of crushed garlic and basil

I know in many locations especially in CA there are breads and wines that are kosher but dont have a hechsher, there is just a kosher list of which products are okay (dont know how to find it though sry... I have family in CA and they know what to buy, in NY/NJ not all the same products are carried)
