Preheating oiled pan for potato kugel

Hi. When I preheat my oiled pan for potato kugel the oil splatters all over the oven. I use a non disposable (glass) pan and canola oil. I don't have that much oil in the pan (less than 1/3 cup in a 9 x 13 pan). Does anyone else have the problem?

Make sure the pan is not wet and no water splashes in before you put it in the oven

I use same size pan but not a disposable one, and less oil. Only enough to fully coat the bottom. Never had an issue with spatters

Perhaps the oil is getting too hot. Try reducing the amount of time the oiled pan is in the oven before adding the kugel.
