Returning expensive engagement ring after divorce

Our couples therapist said we should each keep our gifts. Thank goodness. As a single mom with little ones , when I was desperate I sold the jewelry and silver. They were not of great value but the twelve hundred dollars was an enormous help at the time.

Ladies, you actually make me feel better about an aspect of my marriage. I'd feel extremely humiliated if I had to give things back. On the one hand, dh never buys me any jewelry and my engagement ring and wedding ring were, well, cheap. Sometimes I've grumbled about that. But on the plus side, I buy my own jewelry where and when I want and when I can afford it. Should we ever get divorced (chas veshalom) at least he couldn't humiliate me by taking my things away. We might have to split the money and assets but at least I wouldn't have to stand there bare and stripped of jewelry. I'd still look myself.
