My 12 year old son wants to ride his electric scooter to school by himself. School is a half mile away from our house. Am I being reasonable saying no? There's no other boys around us that he could go with? I'm nervous about the safety of the electric scooter, and uncomfortable with him going by himself.

Are there any dangerous intersections? Is there a school rule prohibiting use of electric scooters? Can he balance with his school bag?

I would say no, even if it's just so the thing doesn't get stolen.

Half a mile is a 7-10 minutes walk. On an electric scooter that would probably be more like 4-5 mins. I would allow it if there's somewhere safe to keep it in school, and with a helmet of course.
