We bought a used minivab about 6 months ago for $7500. It now needs major repairs which will cost about $2000 minimum (possibly more). No way to drive it without those repairs. We paid up front for the van and hoped to use it for at least 5 years. I'm really confused about what to do next. Is it worth it to put money into this car? Do I just have to swallow the loss of $7500 and move on?

Wow, tough situation. Did you ask the mechanic for his assessment of the car's future? Also, did you try calling the person you bought it from to complain? Maybe he'll be willing to do something to help.
