Mu husband and I just had our pilot trip. It was very accomplishing. We both returned much more secure in our decision. It's worth the effort.
NbN is an amazing source of support and information. Use everything they have to offer.

How much are the trips when doing the pilot trips? Also how long was your process for Aliyah

amother, the pilot trip to Israel, how much do NBN pay for the trip?

A pilot trip is not an Aliyah benefit. There's no financial assistance. It's a trip you pay for yourself.

If you plan a pilot trip (highly recommended), you should look on the NBN website under the community profiles, contact communities were you may want to live, and arrange to stay nearby (or ask to be hosted, esp for Shabbat) so you can investgate for yourself.

While planning, you should email some of the community contacts and ask about schools, shuls, etc. You should also ask about local job opportunities. You need to start networking now, while you are in the planning stages, so that you can use this to help you narrow down communities.

In general, the more you plan ahead, the more like your aliyah will be successful. Don't just show up, esp if you are bringing a whole family in tow.

Thank you drmom, excellent plan. Already doing some of it, except the pilot flight ;-) working in that one. Yes, I am already been contacted for a job BH! Hope all goes well. And still investigating communities depending on the how well the application to the job position goes. Don't want to live too far from the community where I will be working at.

You all have been so supported and helpful. Thank you so much. All help is welcome, love to hear from you all of anything else that may come up.

The job will be in Givat Hamivtar, Jerusalem area. Anyone know if this area and any housing or apartments available in this area?

Look at communities that are commutable to Givat haMivtar (sandwiched between French Hill/Mount Scopus/Ramat Eshkol). Maale Adumim, several of the yishuvim like Adam, Kochav Yaacov/Tel Tzion, Psagot, etc. and if you want to be in Jerusalem then also Ramat Shlomo. Those are all completely different types of populations/communities.

What kind of community are you looking for? Religiously? Age-wise? City vs. Yishuv? Big vs. Small? Lots of English-speakers or no preference? Etc.

amorher, small would be preferable because we like the person atmosphere, but we can adjust. not picky. Religious, some English and economic ;-) we will be in a tight budget.

Marion, thank you! Will look into it.
