We send our boys to a cheder where they collect money to give to each Rebbe. They ask for $30 from each person.
We have always made it a priority to give what we can, and it's usually in the $180 range. We give it separately from the rest of the class.
Is this wrong? Should I just put my 180 in the pot? On one hand, yes, I'd like the Rebbe to know that the gift is coming from us, but I kinda feel like I'm looking for attention by doing this.
Should I have just added it to the pot or was I right to give it separately?

I like to give more than they collect as well. They collected $15 for two teachers and I thought that was very little. However, I wouldn't give separately when everyone is giving together. instead, I give the extra money for Rosh Hashana and for Purim.
