I have friends that are making a ton of money on Amazon.
1 started almost 10 years ago and the others started about 5 years ago.
I know a lot of people who have started within the last 2 years, I don't know if they're making money or not. I'm just wondering if I start putting myself into it now, taking a course, finding a product and getting approved to sell in specific categories, if it's not already too saturated to make money on Amazon.

I'm connected online with Jessica Larrew and though Amazon is not (yet) part of what I do, I recommend her courses:

their online finds lists save you time. they have courses on product pages and shipping templates and bookeeping, etc.
If I were going to do amazon I'd take a few of her courses first. Hatzlacha!

Yes it's a very full time job and one of them has other people working for them already.
One of them has an existing high- end brick and mortar business and decided to expand it to Amazon .
The other one started from scratch but is doing a lot of quantity.
You can PM me for more specific details if you'd like.

Not only is it a full time job, they employ others with full time jobs, that's how busy they are.
My question is basically if we should start out now.
Thanks for the recommendations Twinsmommy, I'll check out that guide.
