How much (roughy) does a bris cost? Asking specifically about the cost of the actual mohel. Thanks. I'm sure it changes from place to place and mohel to mohel but looking for a rough idea of what to expect.

I think we paid our Mohel $600, but I'm not sure if that is higher or lower.

$400 - 600
Lakewood, NJ
Mohel, who is a personal friend, said that is the fee people tend to pay him but we can decide for ourselves what to give.

Brooklyn and we gave him $250. He doesn't accept payment so this is given as a "tip".

Officially no mohelim accepts tips as far as I know. I believe this is because they're not "allowed" (halachically) to charge for it or something like that. It's fairly standard for them to say "I don't charge, this is what people typically give me, do what you feel comfortable with. . ."

I paid 400 I think. They dont ask for a specific amount. I gave what I thought was fair.

Mohelim definitely demand money, except those who don't. Some ask a set fee (I've heard up to 1000 euros!!), some don't.

We asked around what others did since our mohel won't ask for money, but we want to pay and we know he really needs it.

A Mohel is not officially supposed to ask a fee since its asking payment for a mitzvah. However since this mitzvah officially belongs to the father of the baby the father pays the Mohel as a way of thanking him for doing the mitzvah in his place. That's afaik. We payed 300$ last week (in Brooklyn).

1,000. He only told this after it was scheduled... I think he should have been more upfront especially when that was what he charges. No "this is what I am typically given but pay what you can"- eek. We couldn't really afford it.

$1000. Los Angeles.
He doesn't charge, but we asked what other people give, and this is typical.
