Why don't you give two names, fraidel something, and call her by her other name?
My name is fraidel Yocheved. The grandmother after whom I'm named said that her children shouldn't use the name fraidel because it's embarrassing (she lived in Israel, where Yiddish names are less common, I guess). In the end, we are all name after her, but none of us go by fraidel (she did go by fraidel)- we go by her other name.

I'm pretty sure it's up to you and your dh to name your own child. If you really don't like the name, don't use it.

I like the Freddie idea! What a cool idea.
I was at the park this weekend and I heard a yeshivish mother calling her toddler son Frankie - I thought that would be a cool nickname for Ephraim ... then again my hearing isn't great so maybe she was calling him "Fraim-ke" ...
