Hi there

So my daughter is going into 8th grade in Gan yisroel in Boro Park and they don't have a HS.

I'm starting to think about where to apply as she is my oldest girl...

I'm not originally from BP so my alma mater is out (well it wasn't a school I'd send my kids to anyway...)

Just by way of cultural background dh and I are heimish coming from slightly more Chassidishe backgrounds. For instance my mother and sibs wear very short synthetic wigs and mine are human semi customs that hit the shoulder or just past the shoulder. We love our families and have a serious set of values. Our internet at home is only in the home office in the (locked) basement. Our kids are well read and educated but not exposed.

My daughter said most of her class is split between wanting BYHS, Vien, Bais Brocho and Mesilas

BYHS I think is too huge for a girl who is coming from GY. Anyone have experience with that?

I'm leaning towards Vien because of its size besides I keep hearing that Mesilas and Bais Brocho are nearly impossible to get into.

We are a "simple" type of family and my friends tell me that Vien is more ritzy and my daughter would need a major wardrobe upgrade.

They said in that sense she would do better in Bais Brocho but it is a more right winged school which I'm not against but wonder how many GY girls actually make it in...& how do they fit in?

And what about the other options?

Basically tell me everything I should know.

Thanks for helping this one who is new to this!

Vien is a great choice and I think it depends on the class in terms of it being ritzy. There are many fine simple girls there.
BYHS is actually not as large as it was back in the day. I am a graduate of BYHS and I can not see anyone not liking it! We had plenty of girls coming from small schools and chassidish schools too and they fit in just fine! It's a warm and homey atmosphere. I would definitely consider BYHS as a first choice.
Bais brocha is really hard to get into and they are pretty picky with the clientele so good luck!
Mesilas I hear is great, high in academics but that's about as much as I know.
I think it's time gan yisroel opens a high school! I feel like many girls from GY not sure where to go for HS.
Good luck!!
