Hi, I'm looking for information on different Jewish communities in Pennsylvania. Specifically, the Lubavitch communities, schools, housing, etc.
What can you tell me about Pittsburgh?
What can you tell me about others?
Thanks so much.

scranton has lubavitchers, but they go to the same school as the rest of the kids here.
they have a shul which is slowly becoming a lubavitch minyan, but is not quite there yet.
the lubavitchers who live here are part of the whole community, not a separate part.
housing is affordable.
jobs/parnassa is hard here.

I lived in Pgh for 7 years albeit quite a few years ago. If you are Lubab, this is THE place to go. The school was very good when I was there, the people warm and friendly, housing affordable. Unless things have changed drastically since I left (okay, it was 1994), this is THE place to go. Great medical, great shopping, great places to travel. Can you tell I loved it? I get nostalgic thinking about it.
However, the weather isn't the best: hot humid summer, freezing winter.

I also lived in Pittsburgh for five years where I knew Tamiri....we just worked that one out yesterday. Hee, hee.

I went into the Lubavitch girl's school there - 12th grade - when we arrived there from CA.

What do you want to know exactly? If you're Lubavitch or yeshivish then yes, it's for you.

Avigayils,
Thanks for responding.
I guess what I was looking for is information regarding the community, the housing, the schools ... anything and everything one would want to know before moving to a different community.
What's the price range for houses there?
Yes, I am lubavitch, and so I was wondering about the lubavitch community in particular ... what are the people there like? More modern/more frum? Are there young couples living there, or is it more like older couples with families?
Thanks.
