Any problem keeping salt in a sterling silver salt shaker? Does it have any negative effect on the salt or the sterling?

I believe it's bad for the silver. some come with a glass insert for the salt.

yup, bad for the silver. It makes these permanent black spots. We have a glass insert, and as careful as we tried to be, we still got some black spots.

I rinse the salt cellar every Motzei Shabbos, and store it without the glass insert and the salt inside. I have it for over 9 years, and BH it looks almost new.

I have a silver slat shaker that islike a normal shaker so it's not like the cellars with a glass insert. It does have plastic inside but just from normal shabbos use over the last year it's been fine, just make sure that no salt stays on the top of the shaker.
