Where can I buy a full fur coat - those gorgeous ones I see out on the street?
And what are the approx price ranges for them?

If you buy one have me in mind.
I once asked my mom how women can afford these mink coats... so my mom turns to an acquaintance who is wearing one, and repeats my question.
"Oh, well, actually I own a few" she says.. "It's my thing. I just love to be warm and cozy, and this really makes me feel that way."
I wanted to say.. lady, it's my thing too!
The eensy weensy lil problem is the price tag.

I honestly cannot recall the last time I saw anyone in a fur coat. It was de rigeur in the 50s, into the early 60s. But since then? I never see it.
Your best bet is to go to a furrier. They'll have a selection, and know what they're doing.
A good fur coat will run you from $4000 to $30,000. Some furriers may have used furs available.

As where to buy?
Macy's in the city, has a Fur Vault with amazing fur stuff. It's a separate room enclosed by a glass wall, in which I can stare googly eyed at these cozy delicious pieces.
But it's probably good to ask around from people that have..

Who wears fur these days?
Besides the fact it's ostentatious and the highest level of conspicuous consumption, it is just a flaunting of animal cruelty.
I am not a vegetarian or an animal activist, but a fur coat in this day and age is just too much. There are so many other alternatives to keeping warm and cozy.

A fur coat is actually a good investment. My grandmothers wore theirs for over 30 years and it kept them warm through bitter winters. Personally, I wouldnt wear one because I think I'd look matronly or overdressed but in my fur lined coat I'm certainly not saving any animals.

Like all the extremely popular down filled jackets?

Many people buy furs at fur company auctions advertised in the NY Times (I did years ago for a fraction of the price), sales, after the season, Ebay, etc. for way way less than full price.
You dont want to buy during the season unless you have extra money.

I try to avoid leather handbags. I do wear leather shoes. I did say I am not an animal activist or a vegetarian. I admire those who don't wear leather shoes, but there are so few alternatives for me shoe-wise that I just buy leather.
I think fur is much worse though, maybe because it's so in-your-face and because each fur coat requires more animals than one pair of shoes.
I certainly haven't bought anything with down for years. I love down filled things, I have blankets and pillows I was gifted 15 years ago, but at the time I was not aware of the agony the process causes animals. I would never buy down now.
