It's not all about being attacked. It's about having your opinion respected regardless of what your SN is or what you know about the person behind the SN.

I think the only difference it makes for me is that I give much more weight to posts by posters who use their screen names.

I can't compare the likes on posts with my screen vs anonymous because I very rarely post as amother, but I do often refrain from posting on even neutral topics because of how posts associated with my screenname are automatically taken a certain way.

I liked your post because I couldn't agree more.
It's sad.
I actually just heard a lecture today that discussed this concept.
(Here I go again-I just love learning, and sharing all these wonderful concepts. Don't mind me.)

When we put someone into a box in our minds, we actually end up passing judgement and viewing them as wrong in a certain sense in they do anything outside that box. When we view people as wrong, it starts the blame cycle.
The blame cycle has three components that lead into each other:
1) you are wrong
2) you are bad
3) you must be punished
Fascinating lecture. He explained further that people usually don't like feeling blamed, so they pass it on like a "hot potato". Another way people respond is to take it all in and continue the blame cycle toward themselves.
He then went on to explain how empathy done properly is the opposite of blame, and leads to connection and resolution. Whereas blame leads to conflict and the dissolution of relationships.
