Find a Megillah reading - that's easy, in shul
Matanos L'evyonim - two dimes and we're cool.
Purim seudah - got bagels and lox
But Shalach Manos had us shaking in our socks!

Delicious _____ (insert yummy food item) was ready to pack
Along with ______ (another food item) as a really good snack.
We got the ________ (choose: containers/bags/baskets), but were ready to scream
How would we connect it to our _______ (insert theme name) theme?!?

We dressed up like ______ (costume), and looked really cute
We got ________ (food or decor item) which coordinates, to boot.
We admired the goodies, but our stomachs were in knots
How would we write a poem to connect all the dots?

Someone called "Lechaim" loud enough for us to hear
And like a heavenly voice, it wiped away our fear.
Everyone will figure it out, no need to get tense
Drink enough Lechaims and it will all make sense!

Happy ______ (theme) Purim!

Example - jungle theme:

Find a Megillah reading - that's easy, in shul
Matanos L'evyonim - two dimes and we're cool.
Purim seudah - got bagels and lox
But Shalach Manos had us shaking in our socks!

Delicious homemade turtles were ready to pack
Along with animal crackers as a really good snack.
We got the leopard-print bags, but were ready to scream
How would we connect it to our jungle theme?!?

We dressed up like wild animals, and looked really cute
We got lion-shaped lollies which coordinate, to boot.

Happy Jungle Purim!

So cute and very well done!

The problem is that whoever uses this is going to be admitting that they are on here, and for some that seems to be a state secret. Wink

There are plenty of people I know not here, or would be embarrassed to admit they are, so the secret will be a secret that I know that she knows but no one will say anything. Haha.

For that, see my other poem... http://www.imamother.com/forum.....23031

It became a minhag. Simple as that!

Shalach Manos without a poem
Feels naked, yes, and bare
Just nosh tossed inside a basket
But they can see that you don't care.

Your truffles may be incredible
Your pie may be key lime
But it all leaves a bitter taste
Because you didn't share a rhyme.

Your costumes match your container
Nosh coordinates perfectly
But it's empty of a poem
And that lack is all they see.

For how much work could it be
To match a line or two?
To show us that Purim wish
Is meaningful and true?

For only words with rhythm
And only lines that rhyme
Became a Purim minhag
To withstand the tests of time.

The only reason they came up
With a name like "hamentash"
Is because it's a perfect rhyme
With "lots and lots of nosh."

That there is no rhyme for "Purim"?
Since ancient times we cry
We're waiting for Moshiach
So he can tell us why.

The source for this minhag
And many corny Purim puns
Is the lovely rhyming list
Of all of Haman's sons.

So push yourselves, dear friends
Don't let your Manos look undressed
Include a long [boring] poem
To prove that you're the best.

Or feel free to buck the trend
Since this minhag is still new.
As Yidden did for generations, write:
Happy Purim to You!

OP, it is AMAZING
The way you turn a phrasing

(Yeah I know I copied that rhyming bit. So sue me. I'm not doing a poem for Purim for the valid reason that I just can't.)

Poems for Purim? I don't understand.
We do not do this in the Great Southern Land
Shalach Manot we send
Some lollies and cake
Pack it up quickly, don't quiver and shake
It doesn't need a theme, coz nobody's minding
If they open a package and chocolate they're finding
Ours are all ready and wait in the car
They wait to be taken to near and to far
(To leave them in the house would make us bereft
Coz the kids would all eat them, they'd be nothing left).

Even though I a Jewish,
I can't rhyme.
I never read those poems.
I would get a poem headache from them.
I'd rather,
happy Purim, ______ family.

That is my attempt at a poem. It's more of a paragraph with random paragraph breaks.

Op, I read your poems, (at least the first 2 stanzas) and I loved them.
