I recently purchased a kiddush cup which has engraved 925 on the back of it? Does that mena it is sterling silver or silver plated? Please need some advice

Thank _ You red sea That is what I thought but to clear up something between and someone esle she said even if it's engraved could mean it is still silver plated.
So I need more feedback from others on this ,Thanks anyways

I thought that was the only real way to check if it indeed is real silver by haveing 925 engraved into it. Gold too must have engraved marking

Anything stamped 925 is sterling silver, not silver plate.

SO to reiterate you all, silver plate would never have that engraving but be left alone or say silver plate correct?

AFAIK 925 = sterling

Funny you should ask that today. I knew that it means sterling silver but after 8.5 years of polishing my candlesticks, I only just noticed the "925" stamped on my candlesticks about 2 hours ago when I was polishing them. Or, maybe it was the menorah which I'm embarrassed to say I only polish once or twice a year.
