Are there any heimish families living here ? My husband wears a shtreimel on shabbos but otherwise we are a normal family . Kids are in bais yakovs and boys can attend the local darchei. Question would be if we would fit in or stick out like a sore thumb? Would my kids be the odd ones out ?

A shtreimel is not a common site in far Rockaway, but there are a few that wear. There is a youngish crowd davening in rabbi Rubin Shul on beach 9th street. That is a bit like a shtiebel.
Far Rockaway is not a judgemental place.
But just know there aren’t many that walk around in a shtreimel.

This.
I'm one of those whose husband wears a Streimel and is part of Rabbi Rubin's Kehilla. We are self made, so we don't fit in any box, and our kids go to local schools. Feel free to PM me for more info.

Bayswater may be a good option. It is part of Far Rockaway and about 1-2 miles away. There are some chassidish families. You see people who wear shtreimels. There is a Spinka shul and a Yeshiva. I live in Bayswater so if you want info Pm me.
