| What would be the largest amount you would pay a painter/contractor/handyman up front before a job is finished??What percentage of the total due for the job and would you pay some up front and the rest after the job is complete or keep giving more money as the job progresses?

I think up to half is reasonable, especially if they are purchasing the materials.
But you shouldn't use someone whose reputation is unknown-- you should know with a good degree of certainty from others who have used him that he is trustworthy and will finish the job. _________________ The ability to Google does not make you learned.
