Does anyone have a handle on bitcoin currency? I seems a single bitcoin is worth over $30,000. It was worth less than $1 a few years ago. What I don't understand is why this is happening. Who needs bitcoin? There are very few merchants that actually take bitcoin. Probably none of us would take bitcoin as payment. We go to a store, we pay with cash, we get our change back in cash....what's the need for this replacement system and how is it worth so much if almost nobody uses it?

It's gambling. Put money into something everyone else is interested in. Cash out before everyone else leaves. Make profit.

There is no need for a universal bit system yet, and when there will be need for one, I can promise you the international community will use something less shady than bitcoin.
