I'm making my menu for rosh hashana, and I was wondering. do we have to have all the simanim at every meal? can it be some here and some there? just at night meals?
how does it work?
I've never made rosh hashana before.
and could someone please share their menu!! Exclamation

We do the whole Simanim seder at both night meals. Some people do them only the first night.

We do them both nights too. My parents only do them the first night. I don't know anyone who serves them during the day.

I keep my Rosh Hashana meals quite simple. 1) The focus this yom tov is not on the food and 2) after all day at shul or at night after all day not sleeping, who's interested in elaborate heavy meals? I serve fish, soup (at night), chicken, a side dish and a vegetable, a salad and a light dessert.

I also never made rosh hashana before, its my first time, and.. I have allot of guests, so its very pressuring
My mother in law told me like this
I should make a kugel out of each.
We use allot of simanim, not only apple and fish
What Im doing is
tzimmes out of carrots, eventhouh u can also make a kugel
leak kugel ( sorte leak in oil with a little salt, the add eggs, flour honey or sugar, out it in the bekala and bake)
butternut squash ( cook like potatoes mash add eggs sugar or honey and flour and bake)
also with those black beans, I dont remeber the name
and same thing with spinach, u cook it and then you bake it
The celery is our specialty Wink
then we eta chinese apple, rimon
star fruit
dates
figs

head of the fish
challa apple with honeywith honey
I think thats it
And the kugels look very nice on the plate.
U eat simanim, twice, both nights.

does Lubavitch do the simanim seder? I don't remember it done in my mothers house.
My menu is really similar to Shobbos:
Fish: Gefilte
Salmon Gefilte
Fried Sole (not sure if a combination of the 3 or at separate meals
Salads: my regular shabbos salads (yes some are spicy, but I think I'll leave out the one that uses vinegar, although that happened to be the sweetest of them)
Soup: clear chicken soup with knaidlach
Main course: #1 festive roast (spica and spirt)
#2 Chicken (need ideas still... either something on stove top or crock pot or something baked before that can be rewarmed without an oven)
#3 Either left overs of the above or shnitzel if not enough
#4 cranberry brisket

Any side dish ideas?

I think most ppl do them at both night seudos - at least the apple in the honey.
Just keep in mind -- have ONE SHEHECHIYANU fruit for the 2nd night!

Lub only does apple in honey, and only the first night. Oh, and we eat the head of the fish. (then I throw it away, thankfully its only the first night!)

RivkaS, we are Syrian and use black-eyed peas and swiss chard, but no black beans or spinach.
