What is the optimal way of treating brain inflammation in young children that is caused by chronic infections, high strep titers, etc. Does anyone know of a reputable practitioner that can help with this? (I reside in Brooklyn)
One last question. Do ADHD meds (stimulants or non-stimulants interfere) with the process?

Hospital.

Don't mess with your kid's meds right now. Go straight to the hospital.

Real inflammation or imagined inflammation?

Real inflammation is an emergency. Go to the ER.
For Imagined inflammation you can try vitamins and herbs.

are you refering to PANDAS? you mentioned high strep titers...
PANDAS is actually brain inflamation, caused my the high strep antibodies the body keeps producing, attacking the brain. That's why it usually causes neurological symptoms.

There is no one optimal way, it's a diagnosis with a long road, unfortunately. What works for one may not work with another.
Do you have a diagnosis or you suspect it?
Dr. Sandra Forem is a pediatric neurologist at NYU who was recommended for this.

I apologize if wasn’t clear in my OP. I’m referring to brain inflammation from high strep titers, mycoplasma, possibly chronic infections.
My child is not on any meds yet. I’m wondering if it will interfere with healing the brain inflammation.

The gold standard is antibiotics and antivirals for the infections and ivig for the autoimmunity. Unfortunately it is not a straightforward diagnosis at all. Psych meds are not optimal, they don’t necessarily interfere with other treatments but are not great from a holistic point of view, though they may be necessary at certain points in treatment to keep a kid functioning or getting them to comply with other treatments.

This is mean. Brain inflammation is real and doesn’t always require hospitalization. Many vitamins and herbs work in evidence based ways on many different ailments, including brain inflammation.

Brain inflammation usually refers to Encephalitis. Seizures, fever, etc. That needs immediate medical attention.

There are milder encephalopathies that present as behavioral changes, and psychiatric symptoms etc that don’t necessarily require immediate medical attention. In anti NMDA receptor encephalitis for example, only 50-75% of diagnosed patients experience seizures.

So does that mean anyone can have brain inflammation and not know about it? That’s interesting and mildly terrifying.
