Would love to do a nice family trip on Sunday coming from Lakewood. My children are ages 4-13. What are your recommendations? Thanks!

Hacklebarny state park is great. My kids also
Love governors island.

If these aren’t your type, what does your family enjoy doing?

Governors Island might be interesting for them.

Still trying to figure out what they actually enjoy - especially across the age range. One thing they share - they don’t love amusement parks.

Any other recommendations?

Jenkinson aquarium
Would they like walking thru the woods? Turkey swamp park has pedal boats, playground and beautiful walking trails!

Governor's island is accessable from Manhattan. Not exactly on the way back from Lakewood. And for the Staten island ferry you can get that anytime from Manhattan. OP, I assume you're coming from Lakewood to Brooklyn? If so, don't you want to stick to New Jersey attractions?

Make sure Governor's island is open and if ferry stops there these days.
My friend wanted to go but they told her at the ferry that Governor's island is closed.
