Please tell me that I am nuts and should stop using Dr Google....
I got a random ad that popped up talking about the warning signs for SMA. I never heard of this disease before. I watched the ad, and am freaking out.
My baby is 10m and she is a bit delayed. She doesn't crawl or stand, and has a hard time rolling over. She also refuses to bear weight on her feet at all. My other kids were also relatively slow developers, so I was not worried. The only thing that concerned me a bit was the not bearing weight; I have never seen that before.
She sits beautifully. Her pediatrician said she has low muscle tone, but nothing to be concerned about, and she will develop at her own pace. She is receiving PT, and the PT also does not seem too concerned.
But now I've been googling about this disease, specifically type 2, and I am terrified! Could it be something a pediatrician would miss? Am I insane for even going down this road?? Help calm me down

Check your dor yeshirum. You may have been tested for it . SMA is genetic . I know my husband and I both were tested as negative for being carriers (but we did independent testing)

Your baby sounds exactly like my sister who didn't walk until she was almost 2. She does not have SMA, just severely low muscle tone. If your dr and PT aren't nervous, I wouldn't be... Remember that "Dr." Google alwayse send you to the worst case scenario...
The way you are describing your baby is not uncommon

I never heard of SMA but now I will need to google it as well. My baby is also 10 months and just started sitting but only if I put her in that position she doesnt do ot on her own. Doesn't crawl or stand.

People have told me lately that they've gotten ads for irrelevant medical stuff.

This, my friend, is why Dr. Google is so dangerous.
IMNSHO call your pediatrician, and ask. Its the only way you'll be reassured at this point, and I'm sure they've heard every Dr. Google story there is.
Hatzlacha.

There are sooooo many things that can cause poor muscle tone, and I'm pretty sure it can also come on its own without an underlying condition but don't trust me on that part. Is there a specific reason to jump to the worst conclusions? If you have your pediatrician and PT on the case then work with them.
