I'm curious what percentage of recycling actually gets recycled. Do you happen to know?

About 9% of plastics. 68% of paper. 35% of glass. Hard for me to justify wasting water to wash containers with those kinds of numbers.

Nope, I don't wash them. Didn't know this was a thing. Honestly, I would not bother. I recycle because I don't want a ticket and in Brooklyn you theoretically can get a ticket. But zero interest in wasting a single second washing garbage before throwing it out.

Might depend on where you located, but where I live I don't know a single person that washes any. We pay for garbage pick up, recycling is free, but I don't have the mental energy to separate or have different garbage cans so I only recycle large cardboard.

I didn't know it was a thing to do. I once saw someone do it, I thought she was completely nuts! But I'm sorry I judged her as I see it's common practice!

I live in Brooklyn. Officially you're supposed to, but I waste a lot of time, water, and soap and not all of it comes out anyway like a mayonnaise jar or ketchup you can't get it all out, so I want to stop washing those.

I think you should only rinse with warm water. Whatever doesn’t come out you don’t need to bother.
