Is it imperative to use gala or red apples or will charoses taste good with the green apples?

I use whatever apples I have on hand. This year, it's Granny Smith and Cortland.

I use whatever apples I have. And some communities don't use apples at all. Charoset recipes aren't halachah. It's the appearance that counts.

We don’t eat it either. We merely dip the maror and Korach into it. We hold not to eat it bc it symbolizes the cement that was the cause of so much pain to Klal Yisrael.

I used what we had which was mostly green and 2 pears as well. I add Cinnamon and a drop of brown sugar for sweetness plus red wine and ground almonds. It came out so delicious!

I make a lot. We eat it as a spread on matza after the seder.

Where are your great grandparents from? What kinds of apples did they grow in that region that they would have used?

We make charoset from dates, not apples.

And we eat it.

And it's delicious.

We make ours with baked apples because we have a child who is allergic to raw apples. This year we're at a hotel and requested non-apple charoset expecting more of a Sephardic kind made with dates. They gave us one made with banana and one that was basically walnuts in silan.

Great idea!

We dip the maror into it and literally less than a drop stays on it.
I can almost make it with toy apples too for the amount we ingest.
