My kids are dying to see an elephant. Do I have to take them to Africa? Or is there anywhere in the northern eastern US that still keeps elephants?

(I’m not advocating for elephants to be kept in captivity, this is purely an informational question.)

A lot of zoos have gotten rid of their elephant exhibits amd no longer keep elephants there. Not sure why exactly but I believe it's because of the way elephants behave in captivity (unhappy etc). Although I'm not sure why that wouldn't apply to other animals as well...

Fortunately, the two elephants in the Bronx Zoo are still alive, but Happy and Patty have been deprived of everything that makes life worth living for members of their species. Along with my colleagues at the Nonhuman Rights Project (NhRP), I am Happy's lawyer

We went to the safari by great adventure today and saw elephants right by our car. Also giraffe literally touching the car, bears, lions, tigers, zebra. Kids loved it

I believe the Bronx Zoo and NJ Six Flags safari both still have elephants, though the Philly Zoo may have gotten rid of theirs.

Lol, and if you live in Cuyahoga county like most frum people here (besides for Wickliffe, near Telshe), then you can see the elephants for free on Mondays.

They have a lot of elephants! Smile

There’s different sections. We also saw deer, ostrich, buffalo, baboons. Maybe 10 sections. Took about 2 1/2 hours to drive through because there was some traffic. Tons of frum people. But no line to get in. Make sure u have a full tank of gas and go to the bathroom before

Unfortunately, the monorail is only open May through October. (When it is open, it's an additional $7 for those who don't have the ticket or membership that includes premium attractions.)

You can drive on down to Maryland. It is a bit of a drive though… The Baltimore zoo has elephants and I’m pretty sure the Washington DC zoo has them also.
