Anyone know of a heimish community in an area with cheap housing? My husband wears a shtreimel because that’s our mesorah but we’re pretty mainstream frum other than that.

What community has heimish people? I feel like everywhere is either very chasidish or very litvish or MO. I don’t know where we belong.

In my opinion, none of the above mentioned places are really affordable to an avg family. Airmont, Pomona, Toms River are not cheap. Dont know about Baltimore or Chicago though. Perhaps its affordable.
Maybe you would consider something different though, such as Lakefront? A new community being built for heimish chassidish in Florida. https://lakefrontestatesfl.com/
We have given a deposit and as things stand currently, it should be move in ready by next year Sukkos IYH.

I mean, in Baltimore you have to be in the right neighborhood, but not all blocks are 100% frum and that's ok. My husband wears a streimal and our block (Fallstaff area) is half frum, 1/4 black and 1/4 hispanic and we love it there and so do the other neighbors. And lol if you live in Baltimore then you now know who I am! You need a good block, not an all frum block.

No final pricing yet but the cheapest is supposed to be approximately 380k for a 2250 sq ft house.

Search the site, there are a TON of recent and not recent baltimore threads.

There are all kinds in Baltimore. A very small chassidish kehilla with chassidim from various groups, there are a few chassidish chevras not affiliated with the chassidish kollel, and there is a very large lubavitch community. Yeshivish, JPF, MO... and we all live together and send our kids to the same schools more or less, and we all live in the same area aside from Yeshiva Lane, Ner Israel. It's a great place to live.

Chicago might suit you. Not sure how cheap housing is there. Milwaukee has very affordable housing and has a nice just plain frum community. It’s more of a community- community and less of a “city”.

A typical 3BR 2BA house in Chicago in the Jewish area goes for somewhere around 4-500k. Prices have risen significantly in last 2 years.

Baltimore is very diverse. There is every single walk of Jewish/frum life here. Everyone accepts everyone, go to the same schools, etc. We are a very achdus community!

That said there is a small chassidish community (along with chassidish not part of the specific community). The families from the chassidish community live in a very small area--over a few blocks. They are not any specific sect. Most (not all) came to be part of the chassidish kollel. They have their own shul, mosdos and daycare, but it seems that others outside the kollel can attend their mosdos too. But their older kids (the mosdos are newer and have younger grades) go to the local schools.

The prices of housing has gone up drastically in the last couple years, but so has the rest of the country. So the houses are probably still cheaper than other big cities.

Not really ant streimels but Waterbury is a very mainstream frum community. It has a very yeshivish component and a lot of jpf. Also non judgmental. Very diverse within yeshivish and jpf and no one would think anything of a streimel.

It's also cheap. There's a great house for sale now that is owned by someone frum so it already has a good setup and it's under 400 for sure.
