I taught for a bunch of years and now I opened my own business that provides a service. Struggling to build it, but I’m committed to the process

My friend is a very experienced teacher and started working at a firm this year with lots of potential for growth in the HR dept. She's doing great not quite entry level if you know what I mean.

Do you want to work with kids but not in a classroom? A lot of kids don't learn to read with the standard curriculum. This was my experience and was a Mishpacha article too. My son learned because the resource teacher was trained in Wilson. Otherwise I would have paid privately. If you want to see kids privately its a real need and less stress then managing a classroom of 20.

Private tutoring, either on your own/through a service agency, or supporting students (in schools) who need pull out services.

I work as a paralegal, many of the skills were transferable and make a lot more than teaching. There's so much room for growth and I will likely keep earning more every year

OG = Orton Gillingham?
Would you be interested in becoming a reading tutor?

I was a paralegal and switched fields I found it to be very not family friendly and I worked for super nice people but attorneys work crazy hours and you must be extremely detail oriented and be willing to work as many hours as you need to meet the deadlines.

Thank you for replying. I’ve offered my services as a reading specialist. In my community people don’t want it. I don’t want to work with kids anymore. If anyone else has more ideas I’d appreciate. I will definitely be looking into the ones already posted.

With experience teaching and not being interested in working with kids, maybe look into building curriculums?

This sounds interesting to me, also a teacher looking to switch careers. Can you tell me more about it and where there is a need for this?

Not sure how much help this is, but I know that in the school that I used to work out there was a curriculum director and she was always looking for people to help her develop curriculums/workbooks/lesson plans etc etc
She was also in charge of getting all resources from teachers at the end of the year and organizing the files by grade/subject etc
It was actually super helpful because when teachers left, she had things for the new teacher to build on/get ideas from or use outright, depending on how good it was and style of teacher
It was also great because when I saw a student was missing a skill that the class has from a previous year I would ask her what review sheets/resources she can give me (to do with kid/show kid/have her do with parents/have her do with tutor) and even though I had no clue which teacher teaches this skill and in which grade I could still access the materials that were created for school
In my opinion this is a must in every school

Actually also thinking of another school that wants more curriculums created, it's a kiruv school that my friend works at and they want to have more resources made for their demographic

Ask around in schools if they have this/need this
Maybe ask friends who work in schools
Good luck!

I always say teachers have so many skills! We have to think on our feet break down and explain complex material. Teach while being heckled sometimes, manage a class and be in tune with emotions.
