before they eat it?
It takes time to wash, dry, and put everything in a bowl. When you buy fruit do you wash it right when you come home and dry it or you just stick it in a bowl and everyone washes (or not) before they eat it? Also, how do you wash it, with water, or with fruit/vegetable wash or unscented soap like seventh generation? Also, how many kids do you have and how many fruits do you buy each week?

I wish everything except stuff that degenerates from moisture or stuff that is peeled like oranges or bananas.
I don't dry fruit as I just leave it on my drain board over the sink to drip and air dry. When it is dry I put in the appropriate containers - most of my produce except bananas and tomatoes are refrigerated except while I am having them ripen like stone fruit.

It really depends.
If you have children, you might not trust them to wash fruit from the refrigerator.
Also sometimes it is easier to wash everything all at once. For example, I wash cherries all at one and put in a colander to air dry. Easier than washing a few cherries and having either a wet bowl or having to deal with drying a few cherries.

I do have little kids BH but I guess it never occurred to me to be bothered by eating wet cherries or having a wet bowl.

Different strokes. It takes 10 seconds to dump cherries into a colander and then let drain and dry over the sink. Easier than washing small batches. š¤·āāļø

If you wash produce and stash in the fridge they will to bad quicker. I only wash before use.

Quite a lot of fruit deteriorate much quicker once it's washed. I never wash fruit until we're going to eat it to keep it the freshest and crispiest possible

Chlorine?! 
Sorry to ask you but what is so dirty on produce that's it requires chlorine? You are aware if that it's highly toxic, don't you?

Oh no worries!
I know it sounds strange but it's recommended where I live (Brazil).
It's not like pool chlorine, it's a very weak solution sold especially for this. You let it in for 10 minutes and rinse.
Then I put everything in the fridge. Except bananas. And I dont wash bananas.

Everyone washes their own fruits before eating. Whenever I see my children taking one, I tell them to wash it well and watch if they do it. We wash them well with water and rub them dry afterwards, as that also helps to take off the chemicals.
