Whats the going rate? Spoke to 2 that came highly recommended on this website actually and both quoted $1600, one quoted $1650 but charges if it goes over a set amount of hours.
Do I just need to accept the fact this is how much the going rate is and pay it? Or keep researching?

Is this your first child?

In my experience, I had a doula for my first kid and it was super worth it, so important to me. My mother lived far away and I didn't want my MIL around for active labor, and my husband was obviously not able to supply physical support, and it made all the difference in the world to have someone holding my hand through contractions and just being by my side (because the nurses were present only very intermittently).

After that first labor, I didn't get a doula for any of my others, and no regrets. I don't think I needed it for them; just for the first one.

Anyway, my doula was not quite done with certification yet, so she charged me only $500.

For the services she provided that were so, so valuable to me, I don't see why I would have needed someone certified or why I should have paid more. Honestly the most valuable things she gave me could have come from any non-afraid friend who had been to a birth before.

I'm sure there are other people out there with very different experiences from mine, but just throwing it out there as my two cents.

If you’re in Brooklyn - Rikki Wirtzberger is amazing and supportive.

She’s significantly cheaper and doesn’t charge past x amount hours

To answer everyone no this is not my first. And I need a doula that attends home births.

You have to pay for reflexology sessions in her home.
During labor she does reflexology as well
Who did you use? Does she attend homebirths?

tons of threads on this already, but they help with emotinal and physical support in a birth- massaging, advocating, pain relief. There have been studies that women that use doulas have a lower csection rate. You can google for more info I just summed it up quickly

Thanks. And they charge this fee just for being there at birth or is it more than 1 session?
