Where can we move near NY area where we are renting? It needs to be commutable to the city as we both work there. Our oldest is 7 and we do not have family on the East Coast. We are looking for a place we can make new friends, have a shul, young community- considering 5T area, Monsey area and open to other ideas. We realize its too late for the school year, hoping prices go down and we can buy for the following school year.

5 towns is insanely expensive and most things are run down and the houses are run down and need work. Look at the outskirts of monsey the new areas are cheaper.

which areas are the outskirts? can anyone living there tell me a bit about it?

Bayswater (Far Rockaway) is near 5 Towns and is less expensive, but I hear that the commute to the city from that whole area is brutal.

Maybe staten island? Not sure how anywhere near the city is cheaper to buy then rent with the rates these days.
