I told him I would do it for 20 and he didn't sound too sure of it. He said to start is 15 cash or 17 on the books. He possibly would pay me more depending how well I do but I don't want to go too deep down a hole and then get stuck. Should I just stop while I'm ahead? I tried it out for 1 day but he wants me to continue again tonight. Should I even bother or quit?

You can probably do better. I would keep looking.

Is this a telemarketing/sales job? Is there commission on top of the base rate?

It's not commission. It's fundraising

15 off the books isn’t the worst. I thought it was on the books.

So I ended up texting him back this:

I thought over the position again this afternoon. It's not something I'm going to commit to at the moment. I'm sorry

He replied why? Pls call to discuss

I didn't reply back or call him. It wad an extremely stressful day and I don't want to be sweet talked right now.

Was I wrong to send just a text instead of calling?

No need to call if you just tried for a day. Especially for that low a rate.

If you would be interested for higher pay, you can text back. I am not interested in this job for the pay you are offering. I willing to discuss for at least $x per hour.

If you are simply not interested you can text, "I realized during my trial run today that this is not what I want to do"

If you want to do this kind of work - agree to start at the lower rate, but negotiate a raise based on your success. the better you do - there should be more money to compensate you for your time.

(also - the charity really should keep its books clean).

You don't owe him anything at all. You have nothing to discuss with him. The rate he's offering is too low, end of story.

Let people irl know you're interested in cold calling for a tzeddakah. You should find something else soon enough. These places are always looking.

Surprised at all these responses
Yes it's low and I wouldn't work for that but I never did - My starting price even when I was single was 35/hour, I have skills and degrees. Now it's over 100.

If you don't then it's fine to work for this. How many women are always begging here for remote work

I wouldn't. The going rate these days is more. 15 is super low.

Going rate for what? 15 an hour is minimum wage.

I think you did great, another option would be discussing a time when he will raise the rate to something you are happy with if he likes the work you do. So even if you are making a lower rate in the beginning you know that at x date you either leave because its not for you or you start making more. But 15 an hour is very little, at least for where I live.

Does not sound bad to be everyone is looking for remote work and it sounda easy
And people talking about how much cleaning ladies charge cleaning a house is much more labor intensive and physically demanding

I might be close to desperate but I still wouldn’t do it for 15 an hour. This guys trying to take advantage. I think almost everyone is aware that the going rate is a little more than that. On this note- if anyone has any remote job suggestions please pm🙏🏻
