She spills the shovel when I sweep.
She tips over the bucket of water when I want to mop.
I need help!

Can you get her child size cleaning stuff and she can "clean" alongside you?

I saw the title and I was going to say , you clean and they mess it up. Then you clean it again and they mess it up again . That was my cleaning life with toddlers . Bed filled with freshly folded laundry , turn my head and there is a pile of messed up laundry all over the floor .

Cleaning with a toddler afoot is like shoveling during a blizzard.

Give him/her a special job that's not directly in your way (ex: vacuum with a mini handheld vacuum, wipe the baseboards with a dusting cloth, spray the floor with water for you to mop. But yeah, it's easier if they're not there

My sister and I are in different stages in life. Her youngest is slightly older than my eldest, so she is more accustomed to living in a "clean house" but when she comes over she tries to help me out (I used to help her out when I was younger) and I know I swept my floor before she and her family arrived and before she left you wouldn't have known.
This summer I had "a ton of things to do" but while my baby was napping I would quickly try to clean up so I could get to what I needed to do, and that was every day and before I knew it she was awake, I wasn't done and I didn't get to what I wanted to do...
It's a losing battle with toddlers afoot.
One of my other kids every Friday we would vacuum the livingroom and within 5 minutes of lichtbentching would come into the livingroom and spill something on the carpet. Every week, no matter what I did.

You give up and focus on the bare minimum until either they go to sleep or you/your husband go crazy from the mess and ignore more important things to finally clean up. Only to have it all undone 30 seconds after they wake up.
Also, you try real hard to relish those 30 seconds, maybe even take pictures!

Gosh. Thank you all. I forgot how hard toddlers are. I went away for 4 weeks and I'm having such an adjustment! Upstate she played outside. House was tiny and no place to even mess up.
My apartment is outgrown and it's so hard to get used to the mess. She's only 15 months old!

Phew!!!
I knew I am not alone in this but it's great to read about all in the same boat.
I try to clean when my toddler naps. Min I hear her up, noway, I didn't rest yet. I sit down for 15-20 min and then go take out of crib.
That's my life every day.

Same!! So glad I'm not the only one who does that at the end of naps.

Putting toys away happens together. Actual cleaning- I give her a slightly damp rag and let her "help" clean. She loves it- she just runs around wiping everything. Washing dishes- I got her a stool so she can reach the counter. Give a towel and let her dry safe things- her plastic bowls/plates, safe cutlery. Or give her random kitchen things to play with on the floor, that I just rinse at the end of doing dishes.
I do everything while my kids are up, otherwise I would never have a break!
