How much are people charging for lessons that teach kids how to play by ear? Is $35/30 min considered expensive?

What is the point of a piano lesson to teach someone to play by ear?
Piano lessons are to learn technique, music theory and how to "read music".
When you have enough knowledge of music theory and technique, then lessons can often include how to "improvise" but that is based on a foundation of knowledge.

I pay $45 for 45 minute session, and I'm pretty sure she's on the lower end

For how long lessons? How many years of experience do you have?

I paid years ago $40 for my DD. After a number of sessions the piano teacher said she plays by ear in her own way, and the teacher teaches by notes. By ear you are naturally gifted, and notes are acquired through learning.
I think 30-35 is cheap unless it's a young girl starting off.

From what I understand, there’s actually a different method(s) used for teaching one to play by ear. A lot of people would rather learn to play the songs they are familiar with and enjoy singing (kumzitz style, I guess), rather than classical music taught through traditional methods. It’s a different skill.

Doesn’t sound expensive for a private lesson.
If you want cheaper, there are online/usb options, like Bassline Pro. No personal experience, I’ve just heard of it, and I believe it works out to be cheaper.
