We have this meter that we turn on when we suspect an issue.

But you need to have multiple smoke and carbon monoxide detectors installed throughout the home that work on automatic.

Do you suspect something right now? Or is this as preventative for the future? The fire department comes right away for that and takes it seriously.

Natural gas has a smell for a reason. You will smell it if there is a leak. Also, you need an extremely high percentage in the air for it become combustible.

If you suspect a gas leak you need to call your gas company right now

I thought I smelled something last week, but it disappeared.

You should still call your gas company, they will send someone right away to check. If there was a leak, it wouldn’t just go away. It’s possible you got used to the smell so it’s not as noticeable anymore. That happened to me, and it turned out I was living with 3 major leaks for over a month.

Yours is a carbon monoxide detector, not for kitchen gas leaks. Thats different.
