I have the miele for a few years. I really dislike using it as do my kids. I find it ok on hardwood floors but on my kitchen tiles it does not glide nicely. It suctions into the floor way too strong (&if we turn down the suction it doesn't clean as well)
Also, it makes a screeching sound every time it's pulled back.
Is this just how these vacs are? Or might there be a problem with mine?

I don't have tiles, only carpet and laminate, but I find my miele works great. We've had it about 10years now.
Ours allows us to change the type of floor it's on, whether that might help your suction?

Which model do you have?
I have a Miele and I love it. Cleans well and is so quiet.
I have a combination of tile in bathrooms with wood everywhere else with area rugs.
The screeching sounds as if there is an issue because my Miele is super quiet - so quiet that when my cleaning lady is using it, I can barely hear her and I work in an open office area that only has a room divider.
You should call Miele customer service to see if they can help.
Also - you might be happier with a steam mop or wet/dry type of vacuum just for the kitchen tiles as I think they are much better for those types of surfaces.
