Recently, in one of Rabbi YY's lectures, he quoted one of the Rebbes who said that "Living with the Times" means living with the Parsha- Finding meaning and relevancy in the current Parashas Hashavua.

Let's use this thread to point to interesting parallels, and hints to current events from the parsha.

It's not current events that we find hints to in the text. It's taking lessons from the parsha and applying them to what's currently going on. Ie treating the parsha as a weekly theme instead of a history book.

I read or heard this somewhere.. why is it that the media is so biased towards the Arabs? Its like the Arabs are protected by the media, whatever they do gets whitewashed.
He said, In parashas Vayeira, it says that Hagar saw that her water was used up, she threw the child (Yishmael) under one of the bushes. The word used for bushes is הַשִּׂיחִֽם. Sichim could also refer to conversation. She protected him by using the media as a shield.

Also in Vayeira, Lot is taken as hostage and Avraham goes to fight a war to get his nephew back.

Next week, yaakov said he’d meet back up with eisav in succot. Yaakov himself never went. We met back up with him in yaakov’s place on 10/7. At the end of days, eisav is supposed to use his hands to protect yaakov.

Not the parasha but Tanach. As soon as I heard about the October 7 attacks, I looked up Sefer Amos :

כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֔ה עַל־שְׁלֹשָׁה֙ פִּשְׁעֵ֣י עַזָּ֔ה וְעַל־אַרְבָּעָ֖ה לֹ֣א אֲשִׁיבֶ֑נּוּ עַל־הַגְלוֹתָ֛ם גָּל֥וּת שְׁלֵמָ֖ה לְהַסְגִּ֥יר לֶאֱדֽוֹם׃

וְשִׁלַּ֥חְתִּי אֵ֖שׁ בְּחוֹמַ֣ת עַזָּ֑ה וְאָכְלָ֖ה אַרְמְנֹתֶֽיהָ׃

And IMHO that's what Israel needs to do: hurl fire upon the walls of Gaza and consume its palaces.
