Help me find a gift!!

Struggling to find ideas for a few of my kids. We have birthdays coming up plus Chanukah (we do gifts plus relatives who do gifts have been asking...).

I don't want a craft kit or these "do it once and display" unless it has value itself. But not some box to paint that they don't need. Or a ceramic statue to paint...
And we live in a small apartment. No space. So nothing super bulky.

Boy - age 11. Super smart. Would love something that engages the brain. Also loves boy things- he just got a new basketball, baseball glove etc so something else. Loves building. Part of me wants to buy something from ikea just so he could build it. But we don't need anything. I just want something besides lego...

Girl 8. I am so out of ideas. She has enough art/craft things (which I hate. The mess. The broken pieces. The "I must save every scrap I colored forever!"). Needs no clothes. Doesn't really play with her dolls. Isn't into lego that much...

Any ideas?!?
