I am having the hardest time picking a name for my newborn girl!
I heard that a Malach is supposed to come whisper a name in my ear, but I haven’t heard it.
It’s been days since she’s born and no name I try to think of or research fits her.
Starting to feel the pressure

I didn’t know the gender until birth, but whatever names I had liked before just don’t go well anymore.
How long did it take you to pick a name?
What do I do??

Pick a name from the parsha
Pick a name connected to eretz yisroel
Name after a rebbetzin or family member

I picked names I liked for first names and family names for middle names. I already had the names decided before the kids were born. I didn’t think any of my kids names “fit them”. To me all names are too big for babies. I think newborns are too little and cute for actual real names if that makes sense.
The names became more natural and normal to me as time went by.
Pick a name you like or one that means a lot to you (like naming after a family member) and just go with it.

I chose a name that encompassed what I felt when pregnant. Ahuva Liba - love in my heart

I was also thinking Hadassah because it sounds so feminine and I also felt a strength in my femininity this pregnancy.

I also love the name Rachel for rachel emainu for current events.

Dina. Esther. Bina.

Look through a Jewish name book. Write down any name that speaks to you. Then ask DH what he likes. Keep narrowing down the list. It’s ok to ask people for ideas as well. U don’t have to specify the gender. Just ask for boys and girls names.

Do u have grandmothers or great grandmothers to name for?
If you don’t have anyone to name for then pick a nice name like:
Ahuva
Sara
Rivka (this parsha)
Laya
Miriam
Esther
Chana
Tzipora
Tova
Malka
Adina
So many nice names just pick one

Mazel tov!
OP, no Malach will be whispering in your ear.
Use your own intuition to choose your baby’s name. Choose a name you and your husband like and find significant.

BH had this with my third a couple months ago. My first 2 the names really came to me..this one was tough! We narrowed it down to 3 names, DH wasn’t a big fan of one of them so we were left with 2 we both liked. I said a Perek of Tehillim, begged Hashem for clarity and chose one. As someone mentioned, the baby is so tiny and hard to see what name fits..and it is honestly still
Hard to know if we absolutely made the correct decision, but I believe she will grow into it and it will become her.
PS I knew the gender for this baby for the first time, it made it harder not easier to name!

Also-I don’t know about a malach whispering the name, but I do believe that Hashem guides our footsteps/decisions (hameichin mitzadei gaver). This has helped me once I did decide.
Good luck, any name you choose will be the right one! Mazal tov.

It doesn’t have to be perfect. It doesn’t have to be a magical moment of inspiration. If a name seems ok to you, not wrong, go for it.

How easy it is for us chasidish people
We name after grandmothers and great grandmothers and we usually take turns from one side and then the other
And then we move to aunts and great aunts
And rebbitzins

You also don't have to do an exact family name. For example, my husband and I aren't so into Yiddish names (even though my name is Yiddish.) For our daughter, we gave her a name we like+a family name that we did the Hebrew version. For example, another name we had considered was Perel, but we were thinking Penina (or Margalit, but I think I prefer Penina)

Just had a baby almost four weeks ago.
Knew the gender since the beginning.
This was the first one that I couldn’t find any names I even liked.
Searched and searched.
I gave birth, and still had no name.
I went to the hospital after I gave birth, and the nurse who admitted us asked if we named her yet. I said no, we have no name.
She asked what my other kids names were and suggested one name which we said no to, and then another name.
We named her that.
For my son - I had a name chosen since I had found out the gender.
The second day after he was born I woke up in the middle of the night and for some reason had a name in my head. I looked it up to see if it was a real name. Named him that.
Another one of my sons, I had a name chosen the whole time and switched it the morning of the Brit.
It’ll come to you. Have some faith Smile
