Is it normal? My 4 year old got the shot Thursday today she’s complaining all day that it hurts her. It’s hot swollen and red. Should I be concerned? What can I give her for the swelling to go down?

I believe it’s normal but you can call your doctor in the morning and describe the symptoms, ti be safe. Give her Motrin if she’s in pain.

Perhaps try a local on site detox such as miracle clay?

Very normal put ice and give Motrin. If the area that is red seems to be spreading then contact your doctor.

RN here, worked in peds for many years. Exactly as above, totally normal. The redness/swelling should be around the general area where the vaccine was given.

Normally not more than three days, but in rare cases it can last up to a week.

Whatever you do, don't give tylenol.

It depletes glutathione, an enzyme that's extremely important for the body to detoxify from the vaccine and ensuing inflammation.

Yes. Never give Tylenol/ Motrin after a vaccine.

Even my pediatrician warns against it

My pediatrician says it’s fine to give medicine after a vaccine if the kid needs it. DTAP is one of the hardest in terms of swelling and red and even fever.

I was told to give Benadryl and Motrin, and to ice it.
If swelling or redness goes past the elbow or shoulder contact the Dr right away. Further treatment may be necessary. I’ve had this with one of my children.

I just had this. My doctor takes a pen and makes a circle around it and makes sure by the next day or so it’s getting less the red and not getting more. You can ice the area . I’ve had this where it got worse and I needed antibiotics .

You shouldn't give it directly after receiving the vaccine, because you want your body to mount an immune response (and therefore develop immunity).
Nothing wrong with giving it once a person develops symptoms (fever, pain, swelling).
It shouldn't generally last more than a few days.

One of my children needed antibiotics and steroids as it swelled and got hard for over six weeks.
That was on top of the Benadryl to stop the body’s reaction, and ice and Motrin as anti inflammatory.

Does it makes sense to feel itchy in the area almost 2 weeks after receiving the vaccine?
